What Is Brazilian Butt Lift?
The Brazilian butt lift is a procedure designed to transfer fat from one area of the body – typically the stomach and thighs, hips, knees, or back – to the buttocks through liposuction. This fat-grafting procedure is meant to reshape and enhance the size of the buttocks, providing Lowcountry patients with a better figure and a perkier rear end.
For those who have lost weight and feel their buttocks lacks shape or those who wish to improve the appearance of their backside, this method of buttocks augmentation is an effective solution.
Fat-transfer buttocks enhancement is unique in that it involves the use of the patient’s own harvested body fat rather than the use of synthetic material. This allows for healthier and longer-lasting results.
Why Come In for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
As the human body ages, metabolism slows significantly, causing it to become more difficult to shed unwanted body fat through the normal avenues of exercise and a healthy diet.
Body fat naturally begins to accumulate in the stomach and thighs as muscle tone is lost in the buttocks region for most women. This is especially true for mothers who have given birth to several children. For some other women, genetics left them with backwards proportions – they have wide waists and love handles but a tiny buttocks and narrow hips.
The Brazilian butt lift provides a solution to the problem. Within reasonable expectations, a Brazilian butt lift will restore a well-defined and toned rear end while removing unwanted excess body fat from the stomach and thighs, providing sculpting and contouring. A reduction of fat in the stomach and thighs coupled with a well-rounded butt provides better curves.
As mentioned before, the Brazilian butt lift has the advantage of utilizing the patient’s own body fat as the injected material. This body fat fuses with the fat cells already in existence in the buttocks, allowing maintenance of the results through regular exercise and diet.
Furthermore, the liposuction performed during the procedure does not require normal surgical incisions, which would be required when a synthetic material is used. Therefore, the procedure requires no large incisions, heals quickly, and does not cause noticeable scarring. The results are a flatter stomach, a thinner waist, and a fuller buttocks.
I had an abdominoplasty and fat grafting to my buttocks, so I want to thank Dr. Weniger for everything that he did. So far, I am 100% satisfied with the process and the procedure. It has altered my body structure and overall makes me feel so good. His staff really took care of me, from the beginning to the end. I will definitely be back to see Dr. Weniger and hopefully will be referring him to other people.
The Brazilian Butt-Lift Procedure
The Brazilian butt lift is customized to meet each individual patient’s unique needs and desired results. The procedure takes only two to three hours but can vary depending on a number of factors and the individual’s desires.
First, Dr. Weniger examines the stomach, love handles, knees, thighs, and buttocks. Measurements are made and guiding lines are drawn for the doctor to follow. The measurements and lines mirror the results discussed during a consultation, which will take place before the day of the surgery.
Then the patient will be brought to the operating room, where general anesthesia will be administered. Next, an anesthetic is injected into the appropriate areas. After the anesthetic is administered, a process known as fat harvesting begins. During this, excess fat from the stomach, waist, thigh, or other donor regions is extracted through tumescent liposuction.
Once the fat is extracted and put through the purification process, the purified fat is injected into the appropriate areas of the buttocks utilizing a specialized syringe and technique. The process is repeated until the desired results have been achieved.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Individuals with a flat or saggy rear end and excess body fat in the stomach, waist, back, and thighs are considered the ideal candidates for this medical procedure. The Brazilian butt lift, like all medical or surgical procedures, can make a wonderful difference; however, lasting and meaningful results depend, ultimately, on the lifestyle choices of the potential candidate.
The ideal candidate for a Brazilian butt lift is in good general health, has an appropriate quantity of unwanted excess fat, and has realistic expectations of what can be achieved through the procedure.
Those potential candidates who are not living a healthy lifestyle or are not at a stable weight will see diminished results in comparison to a candidate living a healthy and active lifestyle.
Brazilian Butt Lift FAQs
How long will the Brazilian butt-lift procedure take?
Every situation is different depending on the extent of liposuction that will occur and the desired results. The typical amount of time the procedure takes, however, is between two and three hours.
What can I expect after the procedure?
The doctor recommends appropriate amounts of rest for the remainder of the day. There is a two-week healing period in which the patient should not exercise the affected areas in any manner except by walking, which is encouraged. Mild discomfort is normal after the surgery.
Are there risks?
Mild discomfort in the donor area and the buttocks is normal; however, if major discomfort is experienced in either of these regions of the body after the surgery, it is important to consult the doctor. Infection is a potential risk, but very few cases contract an infection.
Fat reabsorption is a possibility. Fat reabsorption, in the case of a Brazilian butt lift, is when the buttocks absorbs the injected fat more than intended. After a typical Brazilian butt lift, anywhere from 65 to 85 percent of the volume transferred during surgery is retained.
There is also the risk of the desired results not being achieved. This is particularly true of patients with unrealistic expectations. It is also true of patients not already living a healthy lifestyle. The doctor, in such cases, will work with the patient to achieve acceptable results. The worst complications include medical risks such as organ injury, blood clots in the legs which travel to the lungs, fat entering the bloodstream and traveling to the lungs, and even death.
How soon can I return to work after my Brazilian Butt Lift?
Most Brazilian butt-lift patients return to work the next week. What doctors suggest is being cautious about physical activity and avoiding working out the affected regions for at least a two-week period of time. Furthermore, extended periods of sitting on the buttocks should be avoided during post-surgical recovery.
